I am in the early throws of renovation The
Derby Nipper, I found her lying on the bank of Shardlow Marina in Derbyshire,
and bought her from the mariner. She had been raped of her hood, engine,
controls and held a healthy 2' of rain water, so I made the assumption she would
float and buy her.
I emptied and stripped her back as far as i dared, and painted the hull, and
replaced the bottom rubbing strips. With a new hood engine and controls, I kept
it un Ullswater, Cumbria for a season, and then Coniston. But due to storm
damage i will mainly have to start again! I've done the cockpit floor and I am
waiting to move her to Windermere, for a full fit out. So it begins again, so
stay tuned...............
I am due to go and start rubbing down the
hull in a few weeks and will get some before pictures for the site whilst im
there. The Derby Nipper is currently sat on her trailer, in a boat yard in the
Lyth Valley in Cumbria, a few miles south of Lake Windermere. The task
of renovation will involve preparing and painting the hull brilliant white and
adding a few stripes of blue. Secondly I shall tackle the galley restoring the
original sink/cupboard and cooking area, and replacing the walls floors and as
much of the bulkheads as possible. I will be sticking with her classic layout
but adding some modern materials and accessories. once complete I hope to have
moorings on Windermere or Ullswater again, failing that i quite fancy the idea
of getting her into the canal at Lancaster and cruising back to Derby! Last time
The Derby Nipper was in the water, we had moorings on Ullswater and had great
family days out fishing and playing on the lake, prior to that she was moored
where i found her at Shardlow mariner in Derbyshire.
I shall be needing some advice about changing the rubbing stripes and fixing a
tiny hole, so hope to get lots of help on the forum.
